A Somerset Elopement: Sun, Sea & Smoke Bombs

Well, what can I say about Carol & Steve. They’re such a lovely, funny, happy couple and it was an absolute joy to photograph them for their Somerset elopement. More importantly, Carol wanted to bring some smoke bombs! These can make an amazing addition to your wedding photography (but make sure you talk to your venue first!) Feel free to drop me a line if you’d like any advice on using smoke bombs for your wedding!

Carol & Steve decided to have a last minute elopement at the stunning Berwick Lodge in Bristol (pro tip: if you’re looking for a wedding venue in Bristol, you should definitely take a look!), which they kept completely secret from their friends, family and children! After their ceremony, they headed down to Weston-Super-Mare where I met them to capture these shots.

Carol was super prepared for our shoot and came armed with all of the props she wanted to use. It took us a little while to find the perfect spot (pro tip #2: If you want to shoot in Weston, head out to Sand Bay and avoid the main beach!), but as soon as we did we got started! We managed to stumble across a field which was perfect for what the couple were looking for, and it even had the added benefit of an ice cream van!

One of the best aspects of this shoot was how ‘up for it’ the couple were. Climbing over stiles in her wedding dress, getting her feet in the sand and sea – I know it isn’t for everyone, but little things like this can really help you get those perfect shots at your elopement or wedding (pro tip #3: research your location of choice, and bring the right shoes!)

Once we were done at our lovely little field location, the happy couple wanted to head for the beach. Whether you do or don’t know Weston-Super-Mare well, you’re probably well aware of the Grand Pier and how popular it is, so we wanted to avoid that area. We really didn’t want a hundred other people in these shots! So as we were fairly close by anyway, we headed onto Sand Bay. While there were a few people out walking their dogs, there weren’t many at all so they were nice and easy to avoid! We got the shots we needed on the beach, packed up and headed off.

This really was such a fun shoot, and I think the images we ended up with are just beautiful! If you’re thinking of a Somerset elopement, drop me a line and let’s talk!
